In memory of Bill Moggridge, inventor of the laptop design

Bill Moggridge, director of the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and an outspoken advocate for the value of design in everyday life, died September 8th, 2012, following a battle with cancer. He was 69. Designer of the first laptop computer and co-founder of the renowned innovation and design firm, IDEO, Bill pioneered interaction design and integrated human factors into the design of computer software and hardware.

It is interesting to see Forrester write about mobile engagement,  “Mobile Is The New Face Of Engagement”, one of the key issues we highlight as a driver for mobile handset design in Chapter 2 “Design Influences”.

We think the research work done by Visionmobile is of an excellent standard, and here they have a good resource of thought provoking views and discussion around app store monetization and platforms.

Should mobile handset designers consider this new type of tactile user interface for touchscreens ? We’d be interested to hear what you think.
