Peter heads up Peter Whale Consulting. Offering a range of consulting services, to support startups and young companies to turn promising technology-based projects into commercial fit-for-market products that customers want to buy and users will love.

Peter is an investor in Iotic Labs, and previously their Chief Operating Officer where he led product realisation and customer fulfilment. Iotic Labs indexes the Internet of Things and enables businesses to discover new data sources and interact with data to create transformative new products and services.

Peter is an active board member of CW (Cambridge Wireless), having been twice elected by the membership since 2009. Peter is a long-standing SIG Champion active in the Artificial Intelligence SIG and for many years in the predecessor of the Future Devices and Technology SIG and has conceived and delivered many innovative and successful events along with his fellow co-champions. For six years, Peter successfully led the team delivering the flagship Future of Wireless International Conference for CW.

Peter previously worked with technology innovator Qualcomm, where he led teams in artificial intelligence and product design: powering app stores with content recommendations, improving the battery performance of smartphones, and enhancing how we interact with connected consumer devices in our homes. Peter is a named inventor on nine patent applications in the field of machine learning.

Prior to Qualcomm, Peter was a key player in the growth and development of mobile technology licensing business TTPCom, into a global software business. Peter led teams creating software which over time transformed mobile phones from simple “talk and text” devices into modern Smartphones. He held a wide range of management, technical and customer-facing roles, with experience stretching from the physical layer through to application platforms and mobile operating systems. Proud to have developed and sold mobile phone software shipped in well over 100 million handsets, with an extensive list of blue chip customers globally.

Peter’s earlier career was as a technology consultant with both TTP Group and Logica, within the telecoms sector working in areas such as Pagers, Private Mobile Radio and Speech Recognition.

With an interest in the non-profit sector, and building on Qualcomm’s philanthropic corporate giving culture, Peter built the corporate relationship between Qualcomm and the Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB), as well as being a Trustee of local charity Ely Foodbank. Peter has a passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of leaders, having instigated programmes in both the commercial and third-sector.

Peter is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Member of the British Computer Society (BCS) and a Chartered Engineer, and holds an honours degree in Computer Science from the University of Kent.

Peter is a very curious, inquisitive individual, and as well as high technology, has wide ranging interests including history, architecture, cosmology, theology, linguistics and behavioural economics. When relaxing, Peter enjoys visiting nature and heritage sites along with a spot of bird-watching.
